WTF is going on???

Once upon a time, every once in a while, I’d hear a story that made me shake my head and wonder what people were thinking. Like that woman that drover her car into the lake with her baby boys still strapped in. Or a friend of a friend who’s 11 year old daughter shot herself in the stomach because she thought she was pregnant.

Those sad stories would pop up and I’d think, “Man, that’s some crazy crap.” But it didn’t happen all the time. It wasn’t the norm. Now it seems I could hear both those stories, plus half a dozen more just as insane all in the nightly news for one day.

I’m a little sleep deprived as the munchkin man is sick and not sleeping well, but today so far, I’ve gotten dizzy from shaking my head at all the crazy stuff I’m hearing.

Another student killed themselves at a local school. This is the fifth one in just over a month. 5 in a month! WTF is going on?? Is there something in the food or water? Is there some sort of cult? Bullying? What are the parents doing? Is the school doing anything?

Another teacher/coach was arrested for having inappropriate relations with a student. I can’t count how many times this has come up recently both locally and nationally. Locally, this is the fourth that I know of since winter break ended, so two and a half months or so. Again: WTF?? Are these teachers being screened? I’d say that perhaps more kids are just coming out, but I know that in two of them, the student DIDN’T tell and were upset about the teacher getting in trouble. Where are the parents?? What is the school doing??

And it’s not just the big huge things like that. My girls (17 y/o twins) were talking on the way to school and commented about a couple who, though the live with their parents, they haven’t spent a night apart since summer. Both of these kids are 16! They are juniors in high school. And the parents are fine with them not only having sex, but sleeping together EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I understand kids will do things, but that’s going beyond parental acceptance that “kids will be kids”. WTF?

I’ve been shopping for prom dresses and at least 80% of those dresses don’t even come to mid-thigh. On a regular day, I wouldn’t let my kids wear skirts that short, let alone for prom! But there they are. And if the kids weren’t buying them, the stores wouldn’t have them. Who is letting their daughters wear micro-mini skirts to prom? WTF??

1 in 5 freshman drop out of school before graduating. 1 in 4 don’t get a high school diploma within four years (meaning they’ve dropped out or failed). 1 in 3 teen girls are pregnant before they are 20. 10% of all births are to teens … and that’s not counting the pregnancies that ended up as miscarriages or abortions. And parents like the ones above don’t help matters. Neither do lovely shows like Teenage mom!

WTF???

Am I the only one who thinks the world has gone at least half crazy? I mean with parents killing their kids and one another, kids having kids, kids thinking suicide is their only choice when they are still so young….

It’s so sad and bleak the state of our world right now. I’m so afraid what it’s going to be like for my youngest daughter (9) and just about terrified what it will be like for my little munchkin man!

If we don’t wake up and DO something to change what’s going on.

Go hug your babies. Tell them you love them. I don’t care if they are 17 and twice your size, go do it.  Tell them they will always be your baby and you’ll do anything to protect them and that they can come to you at any time to talk about ANYTHING. And you’ll still love them.

First they came for…

Everyone remember that wise, old statement from  Martin Niemöller ?

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

That’s where I’m at today with our government. Maryland (a state only a few miles from me depending on which way I drive), is trying to pass a bill that makes it illegal to smoke in your vehicle if there is a child inside.

Now, I’m not going to go on about smoking or smoking around kids or anything like that. Nor am I going to allow any comments about the dangers of smoking or anything like that. This isn’t about smoking.

This is about your rights. Your rights that are getting trampled all over by our lovely government.

And that statement has never been more true than now. You could change it slightly:

First they came for the smokers,
And I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a smoker.

Then they came for the junk food eaters,
And I didn’t speak out because I didn’t eat junk food.

Then they came for the SUV drivers,
And I didn’t speak out because I didn’t drive an SUV.

Then they came for me….

And you could put in there whatever you want: Religion, gun owners,  the internet. You name it, it is quite possibly at risk thanks to either state or federal government.

And all in the name of helping society. Or protecting children.

You wanna protect children? Put child molesters and kidnappers and child killers in freaking jail for life!

You wanna help society? Remove or relax some taxes and regulations so healthy food isn’t so freaking expensive.

You really wanna help society? Step in and make the greedy freaking oil companies from charging an arm and a leg for gas when they don’t need to. Get jobs back in America AND for Americans.

I’m so freaking fed up with the government stomping my freedoms into the mud and blind sheep following because they think, “Oh, well they say smoking is bad and I think it stinks, so yeah, let’s ban it.” Or, “Make cars get 50+ MPG regardless of what it costs or if it’s a truck made to actually need horsepower. Think of the money I can save on gas.”

Um… HELLO?!? Where would you like the government to stop? If you let them tell you when and where you can smoke in your own property, and if you let them tell you what type of car you are allowed to drive, and if you let them tell you what you can and cannot eat, where will it stop? When will you reclaim your rights?

When will you stand up for yourself? When there is no one else left to stand with you?

Sorry, I’m in a mood lately and it all seems to come back to my government turning more and more 1984-ish and it scares the living daylights out of me.

What I think

Sometimes, I sit and watch or read the news and I just shake my head. I’m terrified of a world where we have to have a law compelling parents to report missing children and a government that thinks it can force people to buy things they don’t want and tell businesses what they must sell.

I don’t consider myself a Democrat or a Republican. I do find myself more and more conservative if only to fight the insanity we live in.

Here is a quick round up of what I think and believe.

I think everyone is equal. Black, white, Asian, Hispanic, men, women, gay, straight, newborns, people with disabilities. Everyone.

I think if you commit a crime, you should be punished fittingly.

I think men and women are inherently different. Equal, but different.

I don’t think abortion should be compared to or used as birth control. Though I don’t think it should be illegal, especially in cases of rape or incest, even though I would never go that route.

I believe we’ve bowed down under false pretenses for so long, we, as a society, are groveling.

I believe most politicians are full of crap.

I think I should be able to wish someone on the street a Merry Christmas. And if they wish me a Happy Hhanukkah, Yule or Kwanzaa, I’m just fine with that.

I think the government needs to take several steps back and out of most of our lives. And our pockets.

I think the federal government has forgotten about the last two amendments in the Bill of Rights. And I think the states take advantage of part of the the last amendment in there too.

I think I should have every right to protect myself and my family as I see fit or necessary, without worry of laws or lawsuits.

I think there is rampant voter fraud. But more importantly, I think we should have a short verbal test to determine if people actually understand their government before allowing them to vote.

I think too many people confuse rights with privileges. I think the government has them totally backwards. In their eyes it seems safety from criminals and other small things, such as the life of a newborn, are privileges, while health insurance is a right. Hmm, seems a little bass-ackwards to me.

I think we are headed toward a very scary time if America doesn’t get it’s stuff together really quickly. Even scarier than it already is.

That’s all I can think of at the moment, but I’m sure that’s not everything.

3) People making tall assumptions — like that I play basketball or am a model.

2) Buying anything with long-sleeves.
